Configure China Mobile GPRS/MMS for DiGi and Maxis

Third world countries such as the Philippines tend to use mobiles that are made from China due to the reason that they are cheap and it has been further improved that most users are satisfied. Recently, it has been reported that Malaysians are now turning their interest on China Phones but they once viewed them as bad mobile products due to the bad quality and durability. China Phone these days has now improved where the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is just one of the best products that I currently own.

Moreover, this post is a detailed tutorial on how you will be able to activate your GPRS and MMS for Malaysia to work on your China Phones.

For DiGi, you need to press these characters *128# while for the Maxis press *100# then request for the GPRS and MMS activation. Go back to the Main menu of your device then navigate to the Services section. You should find there “Data Account” containing default values of your account and we need to edit them by changing these data according to the details provided below:

Account Name : DiGi GPRS
APN : digiwap
User : digi
Password : Leave it empty
Auth. type : Normal

DigGi MMS needs to have a separate account and the settings below are the once to be used:

Account Name : DiGi MMS
APN : digimms
User : mms
Password : mms
Auth. type : Normal

The following settings are for the Maxis:

Account Name : Maxis WAP GPRS
APN : net
User : maxis
Password : net
Auth. type : Normal

When you are done, make sure that you save the changes that you made then go back to the Services section. Select the WAP/Browser to make changes on the configuration settings by entering the details provided below:

For DiGi

Profile : DiGi GPRS
Homepage : http://www.google.com
Data account : DiGi GPRS (Just need to select)
User name : digi
Password : Leave it empty

For Maxis

Profile : Maxis WAP GPRS
Homepage : http://www.google.com
Data account : Maxis WAP GPRS (Just need to select)
User name : maxis
Password : wap

When you are done, don’t exit on your current menu because we are going to deal with the Connection Type. Access it and you will find that it is set to HTTP by default. We need to make a major change on this part of the setting where proxy address and proxy port are importantly needed. Take note that this is very important for your GPRS/MMS to work successfully. Use the following ports and addresses for your DiGi and Maxis:

Digi

Proxy address : 203.092.128.188
Proxy port : 80

Maxis

Proxy address : 202.075.133.049
Proxy Port : 80

Your MMS configurations are all done under the MMS Settings. Select your Server Profile then edit the details of your phone according to the settings provided below:

DiGi

Profile : DiGi MMS
Homepage : http://mms.digi.com.my/servlets/mms
Data Account : DiGi MMS
Connection Type : HTTP
Proxy address : 203.092.128.188
Proxy Port : 80
User : mms
Password : mms

Maxis

Profile : Maxis MMS GPRS
Homepage : http://172.16.74.100:10021/mmsc
Data Account : Maxis WAP GPRS
Connection Type : HTTP
Proxy address : 202.075.133.049
Proxy Port : 80
User : maxis
Password : wap

After you have finally setup all the settings, your GPRS and MMS should work right-away. If it doesn’t then you need to turn your phone off and wait for 5 minutes before you turn it back on. It should be working right now but if it still doesn’t work then there is something wrong with your configurations where you might have missed something else. Go back into the first step again and review your configurations.
